In this sample, the notice is a CP504. A CP504 generally tells a taxpayer that a balance is still unpaid after earlier notices and that the IRS intends to levy (collect from) certain property or payments if the balance is not addressed.
The response date is the date the sample notice asks the taxpayer to act by — either by paying or by contacting the IRS about the balance. Dates on a real notice should always be read directly from that notice.
